  • 3/7/13 In case anyone was wondering what my thumbnail picture was. This art, which was the back of a dumpster in the Julie Darling’s Donuts parking lot, was done by a man who used to be on tumblr (and we even messaged each other once), but his profile no longer exists. From my understanding, this no longer exists, but in my short conversation with the artist, that was expected and he continues to post these in Tennessee and Georgia.

  • 1/31/14 My dad always tells me this story of a kid in his dorm at Tufts who set off firecrackers in his dorm. He unknowingly lit them under a fire detector, and as a result, the entire building was evacuated. This student wasn’t crazy. He wasn’t a prankster either. In fact, he even reported himself and asked for leniency. I’m not saying that it’s okay to light fireworks or any other type of explosives in a dorm, but the student was celebrating one of the biggest Chinese holidays, Chinese New Year.

One of the reasons I love photographing holidays and celebrations is that they’re different and fun. Holidays make us do things we might not normally do. The firecracker celebration on Friday in Chinatown was no different. Hundreds gathered on the glittery streets to fire confetti poppers and watch dancers and musicians perform as everyone celebrated the Year of the Horse.

  • 12/07/13 Sometimes a story is simply not all that entertaining and that’s no fun. Photography is a hobby to me so why should I not enjoy it? Yes, food pitches (in college) mean that I often get to eat good food, but creatively speaking, they are not terribly challenging and don’t have as much variety. These pictures are for a story that was never published on a good recipe for pecan sticky buns. After I got the buns, I looked for people to model them (I was really looking for girls because, well let’s be honest, happy girls eating delicious food sells more than guys sniffing buns). At this point, I had already taken what would have been published, so I decided to just have fun with it because, again, that’s why I like taking pictures. My editors were somewhat confused when I sent them a picture of Yosemite Sam on top of a sticky bun.
